Gritman Medical Center has successfully completed significant upgrades to its surgical operations in Moscow. This development follows an extensive 18-month project that revamped the hospital’s Sterile Processing Department, now located on the third floor of the facility’s “1960s wing.” The upgrades aim to enhance the efficiency and safety of surgical procedures by improving the decontamination and sanitization processes for all surgical equipment.
The completion of the new Sterile Processing Department required the construction of a dedicated electrical room outside the hospital. This investment is part of Gritman’s broader strategy to expand its surgical services in response to the growing needs of the community. According to a Gritman news release, nearly 3,000 surgeries were performed at the facility in 2024, showcasing an increasing demand for surgical care.
Expansion of Surgical Services
In line with its commitment to enhancing surgical offerings, Gritman Medical Center has acquired advanced surgical robots in both 2022 and 2023. The hospital is also actively recruiting new healthcare providers specializing in general surgery, gastroenterology, and orthopedics. These efforts aim to bolster the hospital’s capabilities and ensure that patients have access to a comprehensive range of surgical options.
In a strategic move to optimize its resources, Gritman has now become the sole owner of the Palouse Surgery Center, located on A Street in Moscow. Previously, the hospital held a 60% stake in the ambulatory surgery center. The hospital’s announcement emphasized that this acquisition would enable better utilization of the Palouse Surgery Center, facilitating improved scheduling for surgeons across the Gritman System to meet patient demand more effectively.
Funding and Community Impact
The funding for these extensive upgrades and acquisitions has been sourced from Gritman’s operating revenue and tax-exempt revenue bonds. As a private, nonprofit community hospital, Gritman Medical Center does not rely on local tax dollars, allowing it to reinvest in its facilities and services directly to benefit the community it serves.
These enhancements not only reflect Gritman’s dedication to improving surgical care but also highlight the hospital’s capacity to adapt and expand in response to community growth. The upgrades signify a forward-looking approach to healthcare in the region, aiming to provide patients with the highest standards of care and the latest surgical technologies.
The ongoing commitment to quality and innovation positions Gritman Medical Center as a key provider of surgical services in Moscow, ready to meet the demands of its growing patient population.
