Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs, Beloved Community Member, Passes Away

Donna Maria Hoyem Babbs passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Born on August 25, 1940, in Alhambra, California, she was the daughter of Evelyn Farrell and Carl Hoyem. After losing her father at a young age, her mother married Donald H. Jones, who played a significant role in raising Donna and her siblings.

As a teenager, Donna’s family relocated to North Tustin, where she completed her education at Mater Dei High School. She furthered her studies at Orange Coast College and later embarked on a professional career. For 13 years, she served as the student loan and due diligence officer at Coast Community College District, where she positively impacted countless students’ lives.

Legacy of Faith and Community Service

Following her retirement, Donna enjoyed an enriching life filled with travel alongside her husband, Donald (Don) Babbs. The couple shared a deep commitment to their community and actively participated in various charitable organizations aimed at helping those in need. Donna’s dedication to her Christian faith was evident in her service and compassion for others.

Donna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lee Babbs, and their three daughters, Leigh Anne Nanci, Kelly Babbs, and Kristal Babbs. She is also mourned by her son-in-law, Thomas Nanci, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her siblings include brother Richard Jones and sisters-in-law Susan Hoyem, Benita Jones, and Liza (Hoyem) Haynes. She was preceded in death by her brothers Carl (Jack) Hoyem and William Hoyem.

Memorial Services Scheduled

Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine on December 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. This will be followed by an interment service and a reception for family and friends. Donna’s family invites those who knew her to join in celebrating her life and legacy.
