Rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania for drug possession. The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, received this sentence on December 18, 2025, more than a year after being charged with possessing 18 grams of cannabis during a performance at the Beach, Please! festival in the coastal village of Costinesti in July 2024. This information was confirmed by Romania’s national news agency, Agerpres, and reported by the Associated Press.
In April 2025, a lower court in Constanta County had initially fined Khalifa $830 for “illegal possession of dangerous drugs.” However, prosecutors appealed this decision, seeking a more severe penalty. Khalifa’s conviction was based on accusations that he not only possessed the drug but also consumed it on stage during his performance.
According to prosecutors from Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), Khalifa was found with over 18 grams of cannabis and reportedly lit up during the show. A statement from DIICOT noted, “The accused was found to have possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis and to have consumed another quantity in the form of a handmade cigarette.”
Following his performance, Khalifa addressed the incident on social media, stating, “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
Khalifa’s legal troubles coincided with significant personal milestones. In July 2024, he and his girlfriend, Aimee Aguilar, welcomed their first child together. Aguilar shared her postpartum experience in a TikTok video, revealing, “I gave birth exactly a week ago today, so I am a week postpartum.” She discussed the challenges she faced during labor and encouraged other new mothers to embrace their unique postpartum journeys.
Khalifa also has a 12-year-old son, Sebastian, with ex-wife Amber Rose. In a January 2024 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, he humorously described his approach to parent-teacher conferences, saying, “I’m pulling up stoned. They expect it.” Khalifa elaborated on his desire to be authentic with parents and teachers, emphasizing, “I am who I am, and it’s not because I’m a celebrity or anything.”
The sentencing has drawn attention to the complexities surrounding drug laws in Romania, especially as they pertain to foreign artists. Khalifa’s case highlights the potential consequences of drug-related charges, regardless of an individual’s celebrity status.
As his legal situation unfolds, Khalifa’s fans and followers await further updates on his plans for the future and how this incident may influence his career.
