West Feliciana Schools Celebrates Young Authors with Awards

West Feliciana Schools has recognized its talented young writers by announcing the winners of the Young Authors contest for December 2023. The competition highlighted creativity across various grade levels, showcasing original works that captivated judges and audiences alike.

The winners were categorized by grade and featured a diverse range of themes and stories. In the first grade, Jackson Felker took the top prize with his piece titled “The Highwayman,” followed closely by Rosalyn McGregor with “The Inevitable” in second place and Isabella Hardin with “The Queen’s Jester” securing third.

In the second-grade category, Ariel Price won first place for “Stepsisters,” while Tyler Brian and Josie Gonzalez came in second and third, respectively, with their stories “Innocence” and “This One’s Clever.” The third-grade entries showcased similar creativity, with Addison McKey earning recognition for “If Only There Was a Mailing Address to Heaven,” and Joey Peno and Brody Monson following with their works “Bipolar” and “The Fork in the Road.”

The contest continued to draw impressive submissions in the upper grades as well. Fourth-grade winners included Anya Riley with “An Unwanted Gift” in first place, while Jenna Holland and Madison Minor placed second and third with their respective entries “The Reclamation of Pluto” and “Blank Ink.”

In fifth grade, Peyton Landry earned top honors with “The Fallen Angel,” with Marley Kador and Harrison Warner following closely behind. The sixth-grade winners included Sadie Aitken and Lillian Record for their works “She’s Free” and “Time.”

The accolades continued with seventh-grade winners such as Anabelle Pilcher and Evelyn Pollet, while eighth-grade contenders like Hadley Smith and Abigail Parish also showcased their literary talents. The contest culminated in a celebration of creativity and expression, with students from across grades demonstrating their unique voices.

This initiative not only encourages literacy and writing skills among students but also fosters a sense of community and pride within the West Feliciana Schools.
