Seniors Shine in Final Nutcracker Performance This Weekend

The Dalton community is set to witness a poignant celebration of artistry as ten high school seniors perform in their final show of *The Nutcracker* this weekend. This cherished production, which has become a festive staple, will feature these dancers as they embrace both the magic of the performance and the bittersweet nature of their last appearance together.

Among the notable performers is Mabel Taylor, a senior at Christian Heritage High School, who has dedicated years to this beloved holiday classic. Mabel, who will take on roles including the Snow Queen and various character dancers, expressed her gratitude for the experience. “The Nutcracker has always been a tradition that makes Christmas special,” she said, highlighting the joy and excitement that comes with performing.

These seniors have shared countless memories, from their initial rehearsals in September to the final costume fittings. Each dancer has grown together, navigating the challenges and triumphs of their craft. For Ryleigh Albright, a senior at Southeast Whitfield High School, this final performance is particularly meaningful. “I have never had sisters, so this group is so special to me! I’m glad to perform one more time with my dance sisters,” she said, underscoring the strong bonds formed through years of collaboration.

The emotional weight of this finale resonates deeply with each dancer. Rebekah Bridges, also a senior at Northwest Whitfield High School, stated, “Nutcracker means joy, excitement, and love because I get to dance with all my favorite people in my final ballet.” She will perform as the Chinese Tea Princess and other roles, cherishing the support of her family during this significant event.

For Brynlee Burch, who will portray the Dewdrop and other characters, the experience transcends performance. “This Nutcracker will be extremely special as I not only get to perform my dream solo, but I get to share the stage with my little sister one last time,” she noted.

The show will also feature Mia Cervantes, a senior at Dalton High School. “The Nutcracker has been part of my life since I was five, and it holds so many special memories,” she remarked, reflecting on the emotional journey of her final performance.

As the seniors prepare for their last curtain call, Lucy Hester recalls the joyful moments shared on stage. “My favorite Nutcracker moment was when we were Chinese Tea Attendants and I led everyone through yoga to warm up during intermission,” she shared, emphasizing the fun and camaraderie that characterized their rehearsals.

Another senior, Lynley Lewis, expressed the significance of this experience in her growth as a dancer. “The discipline and effort required as a Nutcracker dancer has shown me what it takes to do hard things,” she said. Lynley highlighted the emotional connection within the group, describing it as a second family that she will miss dearly.

Tyler Robinson, who has performed various roles in the production over the years, added, “The Nutcracker makes the entire holiday season just seem a little bit brighter.” Her journey from audience member to performer illustrates the transformative impact of this production on her life.

Lastly, Jayla Smith emphasized the importance of friendship forged through their shared experiences. “After countless rehearsals, the Nutcracker has become a special part in my heart. Sharing the stage with my best friends one last time is something I will cherish forever,” she said.

As the curtain rises for the final time, these seniors will bring their collective talents and cherished memories to life. Attendees are encouraged to witness this heartfelt performance that celebrates not only the spirit of the holiday season but also the enduring bonds formed through years of dedication and friendship.
