Jessica Lacy Expected to Leave Range Media Partners After Sundance

Jessica Lacy, the head of indie film sales and packaging at Range Media Partners, is expected to depart from the company in 2024. This decision follows discussions with numerous sources who indicated that the split is mutually agreed upon. Lacy joined the management firm in 2022 as a partner, leading the specialty division known as Range Select. As she evaluates her future opportunities, she plans to carry her existing team through the 2026 Sundance Film Festival market.

The management firm did not comment on the impending departure. Details surrounding the timeline for finding a replacement for Lacy remain unclear. Before her tenure at Range Media Partners, Lacy built a notable career over two decades at ICM Partners, where she represented acclaimed filmmakers and worked on films that competed at major global festivals, including Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, and SXSW.

Lacy’s career includes significant deals, such as the remarkable $25 million sale of CODA, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2022. Other notable projects she handled include Cooper Raiff’s Cha Cha Real Smooth, Regina King’s One Night in Miami, and the 9/11 drama Worth, starring Michael Keaton. Her influence has been felt in various successful films, including Karyn Kusama’s Destroyer and The Invitation.

Range Media Partners’ Background and Future Plans

Founded in 2020, Range Media Partners emerged from a group of top agents who transitioned to management in response to the Writers Guild of America-mandated halt in TV packaging fees. The firm is backed by former eOne executive Pete Micelli and notable figures such as former CAA agent Dave Bugliari and Jack Whigham, all of whom hold ownership stakes in the company.

In addition to their management division, Range Media Partners is developing a film production arm that has several projects in the pipeline. Upcoming titles include a biopic on legendary musician and Velvet Underground co-founder Lou Reed, based on the 2023 biography Lou Reed: The King of New York by Will Hermes. Other notable projects include a film exploring the famous screen partnership of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and Soul Train, an adaptation of the forthcoming stage musical about influential producer Don Cornelius.

As the management firm navigates this transition, the industry will be watching closely for Lacy’s next steps and how Range Media Partners plans to fill the significant role she leaves behind.
