Hollie Strano Returns to Cleveland TV After DUI Recovery Journey

A well-known meteorologist in Cleveland, Hollie Strano, has made her comeback to television following a tumultuous period marked by a DUI arrest and a public journey toward sobriety. Strano, who previously worked with WKYC Channel 3 for over 22 years, has joined the relatively new WCTU – Cleveland 13 News as a member of their news team.

In November 2023, Strano was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after her car crashed near the Towpath Tennis Center on Akron-Peninsula Road. Authorities reported that her blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit during the Thanksgiving night incident. Following the arrest, Strano pleaded guilty and began a public commitment to sobriety, sharing her experiences on social media platforms.

While she took on various roles providing weather forecasts for local radio stations, including Mix 94.1 in Canton, this marks her first significant return to a traditional television format. WCTU identifies itself as a “community-driven news network,” utilizing digital platforms to engage viewers, including its website, cleveland13news.com, and social media channels.

Strano has embraced a fresh approach to her return, symbolically shedding her “old version” by changing from a traditional long black dress into a modern sleeveless outfit during a promotional segment. She expressed her intention to present the weather in a way that feels authentic to her.

In a statement, Matt Greminger, President of Cleveland 13 News, emphasized the local connection Strano has built over the years. “Hollie has always had a genuine relationship with Northeast Ohio viewers,” Greminger said. “Her story is one of perseverance, honesty, and growth. Cleveland 13 is proud to provide a platform where she can continue sharing her passion for weather and for this community.”

Beyond her meteorological duties, Strano plans to cover various news stories and conduct interviews. “People are craving something real,” she stated, highlighting her desire to connect with the audience through authentic storytelling.

In a heartfelt interview with Greminger, Strano reflected on her past mistakes and the path to recovery. “I will never not be sorry for what happened,” she shared. “I can now look back at it and say that it was 100% one of the worst days of my life, but also one of the best.”

Strano’s struggles extended beyond her DUI, as she also faced a cancer diagnosis in 2024 that necessitated two surgeries. With support from her community and a personal commitment to self-improvement, she expressed excitement for her new role. “The creative part of this is endless, and I love that,” she said. “I have no limits. I was limited, but not anymore. So stay tuned.”

Hollie Strano’s return to the Cleveland television landscape not only signifies her professional revival but also serves as a testament to her personal growth and resilience.
