BBC Unveils Cast for ‘Killing Eve’ Prequel Series ‘Honey’

The BBC has announced the cast for its highly anticipated prequel series, Honey, which is set in the same universe as the acclaimed show Killing Eve. Although the BBC has not officially confirmed the connection, sources indicate that Honey will explore the backstory of characters familiar to fans of Killing Eve.

Leading the cast is Ann Skelly, known for her role in House of Guinness, who will portray Martha Schmitt, a deep cover agent for MI6. Alongside her, Nate Mann, recognized for his performances in Masters of the Air and Licorice Pizza, takes on the role of Kurt Fischer. The cast also includes Jannis Niewöhner, who plays Friedrich Bauman, and Rory Kinnear, known for his work in The Diplomat and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, as Graham Anderson.

In Honey, Schmitt operates under constant threat of exposure as she navigates a world filled with enemies. Her primary antagonist is Friedrich, the newly appointed Stasi Head of Counterespionage targeting British assets. The series also features a supporting cast that includes Oliver Cudbill as Stefan Weiss, Sonita Henry as Anne Anderson, and Victoria Mayer as Ingrid Schimmel, among others.

Creative Team and Production Details

The production of Honey marks a significant collaboration between the BBC and German network ZDF. It is produced by Sid Gentle Films, the team behind Killing Eve, under the direction of Emma Moran, who serves as the lead writer and executive producer. The project was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, and Frank Seyberth, Head of Coproduction, International Fiction at ZDF.

Notably, Martha Schmitt is depicted as a younger version of the character Carolyn Martens, originally portrayed by BAFTA-winning actress Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve. The BBC has opted for the emerging talent of Skelly to bring a fresh perspective to this character.

The series is set to be released on both BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2026. The distribution rights will be managed globally by Fifth Season, ensuring a broad reach for this exciting new installment in the Killing Eve franchise.

The first six episodes will be directed by Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill, who will helm episodes 1 to 3 and 4 to 6, respectively. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how this new storyline unfolds and connects to the beloved characters of Killing Eve.
