Barton Community College Ensembles Delight Seniors with Holiday Music

Barton Community College’s music ensembles brought festive cheer to the Great Bend Senior Center on December 1, 2023, with a performance of holiday music. The newly established guitar class and ensemble, which meets on Wednesday evenings, showcased their talents alongside the college’s String Ensemble under the direction of conductor Jamie Minneman.

The holiday performance marked the first public appearance for the guitar ensemble, which aims to provide students with opportunities to express their musical abilities. The event exemplified the college’s commitment to fostering a vibrant arts community, particularly during the festive season.

The guitar ensemble’s next performance is scheduled for the BCC Holiday Concert on December 4, 2023, at 19:30 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. This annual event promises to be a highlight of the season, featuring a range of performances from various groups, including the Barton Concert Choir, Hilltop Singers, JazzCats, and Barton Dance Theatre. Admission to the concert is free, although donations will be accepted to support future programs.

The upcoming concert will also include a special ceremony to induct faculty and alumni into the second year of Barton’s Fine and Performing Arts Hall of Fame. This recognition celebrates the contributions of individuals who have notably impacted the arts at Barton Community College.

The String Ensemble was created to provide students with opportunities to perform in a chamber setting, especially since there are no orchestra classes available until spring. This initiative allows musicians to continue honing their skills and collaborating with peers.
