Apple TV+ has officially renewed the comedy series Platonic for a third season, featuring the dynamic duo of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. The announcement came on December 5, 2023, just two months after the highly acclaimed second season finale aired. This renewal follows the impressive reception of the second season, which achieved a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a notable increase from the first season’s 93%.
Co-creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to get back into the world of Platonic with our amazing partners, Rose and Seth, and Sony and Apple.” The head of programming for Apple TV+, Matt Cherniss, praised the show’s evolution, stating, “Nick and Francesca accomplished the rare feat of taking the show to the next level in season two, and, along with our partners at Sony, we can’t wait to see what they cook up for season three.”
What to Expect from Season Three
“Platonic is proof there is no duo better at making us belly laugh at midlife crises than Seth and Rose,”
Cherniss added. The series revolves around a platonic friendship between two former best friends who reconnect during midlife, played by Rogen and Byrne. Their rekindled friendship leads to a series of humorous and chaotic situations, ultimately destabilizing their lives in an entertaining manner.
The second season introduced new challenges for the beloved characters, tackling themes of work, weddings, and personal crises. Viewers witnessed Rogen and Byrne navigate midlife hurdles while striving to support each other, albeit with comical results. The cast also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, with guest appearances from notable actors such as Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim.
As fans eagerly await the next installment, this renewal signifies Apple TV+’s commitment to delivering engaging content that resonates with its audience. The platform continues to expand its offerings, showcasing a diverse range of programming. Viewers can also look forward to updates on other shows that have been renewed or canceled on Apple TV+ this year.
