New Apartment Complex Receives Initial Approval in Birmingham

Plans for a new apartment complex, named Sherman Multifamily, have progressed with conceptual approval from the Birmingham Design Review Committee. This development will be located at 1110 Second Avenue South in Birmingham’s Parkside area, on a site previously occupied by Sherman Industries, adjacent to the Denham Building. The committee’s decision was confirmed on March 13, 2024, by Abraham Odrezin, a landscape architect with the City of Birmingham.

The project, designed by Fifth Dimension Architecture & Interiors, envisions a five-story structure comprising 335 units. In addition to residential apartments, the complex will feature a five-story parking garage. The design incorporates east and west interior courtyards, including amenities such as a pool, a pavilion, and a dog park, enhancing the living experience for future residents.

The ground floor will house a range of facilities aimed at fostering community interaction and convenience. These will include leasing offices, mail rooms, coworking spaces, fitness and yoga studios, bike storage, and a clubroom for residents. A rooftop amenity space will also be available on the fifth floor, offering panoramic views and additional recreational options.

The conceptual approval marks a significant step forward in the development process, although final approval will be considered at a later date. The project’s progression reflects ongoing investment in Birmingham’s real estate market, particularly in the Parkside area, which has been increasingly recognized for its potential for urban living.

As the city continues to grow, developments like Sherman Multifamily highlight the demand for modern housing solutions that cater to diverse lifestyles. The project promises not only to provide new residential options but also to contribute to the local economy and community vibrancy.
