1925: Cardinal Dougherty Visits Chester

On November 30, 1925, Cardinal Dennis J. Dougherty of Philadelphia visited the parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chester. A special group of Italian-American citizens, led by Rev. Antonio Garritano, the church’s pastor, traveled to Philadelphia to escort the cardinal back to Chester by automobile. Upon his arrival at the St. Anthony school, located at the intersection of Third and Parker streets, at 15:30, Cardinal Dougherty was treated to an entertainment event featuring performances by schoolchildren and members of the parish. He was accompanied by Bishop Mahoney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

1950: Upland Borough Council Rescinds Police Motion

In a notable decision on November 30, 1950, the Upland Borough Council faced strong citizen protests and subsequently rescinded its motion to appoint a part-time police officer. This left the borough with a single full-time officer, Chief Thomas Cluelow, as the only member of the police force.
