Judy Parsons, Beloved Community Leader, Passes Away at 93

URGENT UPDATE: Judith Lynn Parsons, a cherished matriarch and community advocate from Soquel, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 after a joyful visit with her family. Her death, confirmed just hours ago, comes shortly after spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

Born in 1932 to Dorothy Graebe-Zent and Claude Zent in Stockton, Judy was raised by her loving grandparents after her mother’s untimely passing due to tuberculosis. A dedicated political activist and ardent baseball fan, she graduated from Stockton College High School and later from San Jose State University, where she became a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority.

Judy met her husband, Paul Parsons, at Cowell’s Beach. They married in 1954 and created a loving home for their three children on Fairway Drive in Soquel. Known for her vibrant spirit and community involvement, Judy worked with the Girl Scouts and served in local Parks and Recreation. She was also the owner of Parsons Insurance Agency in Capitola, where she greatly impacted many clients and friends.

Her commitment to the Soquel community was profound. Judy was an active member of the Sportscar Club, First Night, and the Land Trust, helping to establish Anna Jean Cummins Park. She even served as president of the Soquel Pioneers. Her iconic red Prius, complete with the license plate “I LY Q,” symbolized her spirited personality.

Judy’s passion for baseball was unmatched. She and Paul were die-hard fans of the Oakland A’s and rarely missed a game, showcasing their love for the sport while also nurturing their family. They brought joy and support to their grandchildren’s activities, earning a reputation as the “BEST grandparents.”

The couple enjoyed summers at their family cabin at Woods Lake, sharing laughter and adventures with friends, including trips to casinos in Nevada. Their love for travel took them across Central and South America and culminated in a memorable safari in Africa in their late 80s.

Judy is survived by her three children: Randall (Alison), Stacey (Skip), and Pepe Parsons (Amy D), as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, to whom she was deeply devoted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, who passed just months prior, holding her hand as they shared a lifetime of love.

In honor of Judy’s legacy of generosity and community service, donations to a favorite local charity are encouraged. Special thanks are extended to Judy’s friends and her dedicated care team for their support during her final days.

Family and close friends are set to celebrate Judy’s remarkable life during the upcoming holidays. Her impact on the Soquel community and the lives she touched will not be forgotten, making her passing a significant loss felt by all.
