UPDATE: Community members in Mobile are gearing up for two impactful Chanukah celebrations, set to begin in just **two weeks**. The events, organized by Chabad of Mobile, will not only commemorate this festive occasion but also support local families in need through food donations.
Mark your calendars! The festivities will feature a special menorah lighting ceremony attended by Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, emphasizing the community’s commitment to helping others. The menorah will be constructed entirely from canned goods, which will be donated to Feeding the Gulf Coast after the celebrations.
From now until the events, community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. Donations can be made by bringing canned goods directly to the Chabad or contributing towards the purchase of cans. Each can collected will serve as a building block for the magnificent menorah, symbolizing unity and generosity during Chanukah.
The official menorah lighting ceremony will take place on **December 6, 2023**, and **December 7, 2023**, with the exact locations and times to be confirmed shortly. This initiative aims to raise awareness about food insecurity in the Mobile and Baldwin areas, making a profound impact on those who are struggling.
Why this matters NOW: As the holiday season approaches, the need for community support is more critical than ever. Local families rely on food banks like Feeding the Gulf Coast for essential supplies, and this Chanukah event is a unique opportunity to give back while celebrating a cherished tradition.
Community members are urged to participate in these celebrations, not only to honor the spirit of Chanukah but also to make a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Together, we can light up the lives of many in our community.
