Harvey Guillén Kicks Off Holiday Shopping for Museum Store Sunday

Shoppers are gearing up for an exciting opportunity to support local culture as actor Harvey Guillén leads the charge for Museum Store Sunday, taking place on November 30, 2025. More than 2,300 museum stores worldwide will offer unique gifts, special discounts, and engaging events, with every purchase contributing to the sustainability of their respective museums.

Guillén, widely recognized for his portrayal of “Guillermo de la Cruz” in the Emmy Award-nominated FX series “What We Do in the Shadows,” began his holiday shopping at The Library Store located in the historic Los Angeles Central Library. He expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “As an artist myself, it feels good to know our purchases support local creators while directly funding each museum’s exhibitions and community programs.”

He emphasized the importance of museums in his travels, noting that he and his sister make it a point to visit museums to immerse themselves in local art and culture. Guillén found several unique gifts from local artisans, including the Trejo’s Hot Sauce Variety Pack and a Reading Brings Us Together T-Shirt.

Purpose-driven Shopping Experience

Launched by the Museum Store Association in 2017, Museum Store Sunday is celebrated annually on the Sunday following Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. This event invites shoppers to engage in purpose-driven shopping within inspiring environments, featuring exclusive discounts, pop-up events, and gifts with purchases.

Many museum stores offer items crafted by local artisans and small businesses, showcasing location-specific and exhibit-inspired goods. Christine Romero, Director of Retail Services at The Library Store, highlighted the collaboration with local creators. “A few years ago, the Los Angeles Public Library teamed up with LA artist Gajin Fujita to create a limited-edition library card featuring a detail from his painting, ‘Guardian Angel,’ which is also available on a 100% silk scarf at our store,” she explained. Shoppers are drawn to unique items that evoke memories of their favorite places, artists, and books, all while supporting local creators.

On November 30, shoppers will receive a 15% discount on purchases at The Library Store, along with a free Museum Store Sunday tote for purchases over $100 (while supplies last). Other participating stores will also feature various promotions. For example, customers can enjoy a 30% discount and a pop-up event with La Bonbonniere Bakery at the Mint Museum Store in Charlotte, or a 25% storewide discount and free tote bags at the Cummer Museum Shop in Jacksonville for purchases over $75.

Finding Local Treasures

The event offers a fantastic opportunity for shoppers to discover mission-driven gifts both online and in person, including books, home decor, jewelry, gourmet food, and children’s products. Individuals can locate nearby participating stores by visiting www.museumstoresunday.org/find-a-store.

The Museum Store Association is committed to advancing the nonprofit retail industry and supporting professionals engaged in it.
