Madison County Sheriff Issues Urgent Travel Advisory Amid Snow

URGENT UPDATE: Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood has just announced a travel advisory for all motorists in Madison County due to severe winter weather conditions. The advisory is in effect for Friday, November 28, 2023, as the area faces a lake effect snow warning that is expected to bring between 7-15 inches of snow.

Whiteout conditions and dangerously slippery roads are causing significant hazards across the region. Authorities report that this extreme weather is likely to persist until 7 a.m. Saturday, making travel particularly treacherous.

“We want to remind people to be cautious,” Sheriff Hood stated. “If you go out on the roads, make sure you give yourself plenty of time and give the plow trucks plenty of space. We want everyone to get to their destinations safely, including our plow truck drivers and first responders.”

While the travel advisory does not impose a travel ban, it strongly encourages residents to limit driving if possible. Authorities urge motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and maintain safe distances from other vehicles, especially when approaching intersections.

Road crews are actively working to clear the roads, but officials warn that conditions may continue to deteriorate. It is essential for drivers to remain vigilant and stay updated as the situation develops.

This advisory is expected to be updated as new information becomes available. Stay tuned for further updates, and prioritize safety during this hazardous weather event.
