Exhibition Celebrates China’s Dehua Porcelain in Los Angeles

An exhibition featuring China’s renowned Dehua white porcelain opened in Los Angeles on November 27, 2025, attracting over 100 attendees from both China and the United States. The event, titled “The Aesthetics of Harmony: Blanc de Chine, Porcelain from Dehua,” aims to promote traditional Chinese culture and foster cross-cultural exchange through a showcase of exquisite ceramic artworks.

The exhibition displays around 100 finely crafted pieces, blending traditional porcelain-making techniques with contemporary design elements. During the opening, Huang Hongjiang, the deputy consul general of China in Los Angeles, emphasized that Dehua porcelain embodies both China’s rich cultural heritage and its advanced modern craftsmanship. Huang noted the significance of the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan in enhancing trade and investment cooperation between China and the United States. He called for collaborative efforts to increase cultural exchanges, ultimately benefiting the citizens of both nations.

Local Reactions and Cultural Appreciation

Fang Junqin, the head of Dehua County in southeast China’s Fujian Province, expressed hope that the exhibition would allow the American public to appreciate the elegance and aesthetic values embodied in Dehua porcelain. He encouraged visitors to explore the deep cultural narratives reflected in the pieces on display.

Local resident Fred Stehle, who attended the exhibition, shared his admiration for the porcelain artworks. He described them as “incredibly fine and delicate, rich in detail,” reflecting a harmonious blend of Chinese tradition and modern craftsmanship. Stehle expressed a keen interest in Chinese culture and a desire to learn more, stating, “We also hope to visit China again in the near future.”
