UPDATE: Snow enthusiasts are celebrating as Mountain High Resorts in Wrightwood, California, has opened for the winter season just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. The resort reported receiving 12-16 inches of fresh snow, with five trails and two lifts now operational, welcoming skiers and snowboarders from November 22, 2023.
This is a crucial moment for winter sports lovers, as only two Southern California locations have opened their doors. With the holiday season upon us, families are eager to hit the slopes and enjoy outdoor activities. Mountain High Resorts has already experienced its best opening weekend in a decade, drawing in around 2,000 visitors over the last few days.
Snow conditions are favorable, and colder temperatures are expected to continue, ensuring a snowy landscape for visitors looking to enjoy winter sports. The resort will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. from November 28 to November 30, 2023.
Meanwhile, Big Bear Snow Play is also gearing up for the Thanksgiving weekend with three full-length snow tubing runs available. This popular attraction will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will introduce glow tubing starting November 28, offering a unique nighttime experience from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holiday nights.
Despite the excitement, travelers should be aware that Highway 38, a primary route to Big Bear, remains closed for repairs following severe storm damage in September. However, visitors can still reach Big Bear Lake via alternative routes, including Highway 330 through Highland and Highway 18 through San Bernardino or the Lucerne Valley.
For families and friends looking to create memorable moments this holiday season, the winter wonderland at Mountain High Resorts and Big Bear Snow Play offers the perfect backdrop for winter activities. Scott Voigt, Director of Operations at Big Bear Snow Play, highlighted the significance of the snowfall, stating, “The timing is perfect for those looking for something to do this Thanksgiving.”
Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and check weather conditions, as the influx of snow has rekindled the spirit of winter sports in Southern California. With the current snow conditions and upcoming festive activities, this Thanksgiving weekend is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience for all.
