URGENT UPDATE: The Neighborhood Nip Foundation has just launched its first annual turkey drive, giving away 5,000 turkeys to families in South Los Angeles. The event took place on Tuesday afternoon at the foundation’s Slauson Avenue parking lot, a site deeply connected to the legacy of the late Nipsey Hussle.
The giveaway is particularly significant as it marks the foundation’s first public event since transforming the former site of Hussle’s Marathon Clothing store into a community hub. Samiel Asghedom, Hussle’s brother, expressed the emotional weight of the event, stating, “This is where my brother first sold his mixtape… It’s important to be able to activate from here.”
The Neighborhood Nip Foundation partnered with the Think Watts Foundation to ensure that families in need had access to a Thanksgiving meal. Attendees like Charles Wright and his grandson praised the initiative, saying, “We came to get turkeys and everything is wonderful.”
Asghedom emphasized that this event is just the beginning. “Any time we can come out and help, throughout the year is the plan,” he said. The newly renovated site will serve as a community center for students, providing access to academic and music programs.
This pivotal moment comes more than four years after Hussle was tragically gunned down on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33, leaving behind two children. With the turkey drive, the foundation aims to continue Hussle’s mission of uplifting the community.
In a time when food insecurity continues to affect many, this initiative not only provides immediate assistance but also fosters a sense of community spirit. The Neighborhood Nip Foundation’s commitment to ongoing support is a testament to Hussle’s enduring legacy.
Stay tuned for more updates as the foundation plans future events that aim to empower local youth and families.
