In the final Varsity Maine football poll for the 2025 season, the Thornton Academy Golden Trojans have been declared the unanimous No. 1 team, marking their fifth consecutive week at the top. This recognition follows their impressive performance in the Class A championship, with standout player Carter Cormier celebrated for his pivotal interception against Portland during the final held at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Thornton Academy Dominates Rankings
According to Steve Craig, a reporter for the Press Herald, the Golden Trojans “clearly were the best team in Class A, the best team in the state.” This assessment resonates with the Varsity Maine football poll voters, who have consistently placed Thornton Academy at the forefront of the rankings.
In addition to Thornton’s success, other teams made significant strides in the final rankings. The Class B champion Westbrook moved up to second place after previously being ranked fifth, while Greely and Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale also climbed at least two spots after their state title victories. The Blue Blazes’ rise to second reflects their strong finish to the season, solidifying their position among the top teams.
