UPDATE: A lost hiker has been safely rescued in Douglas County, Nevada, after an intense overnight search. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team was activated late on November 22, 2025, following reports of a hiker who became disoriented while navigating the rugged terrain between the Castle Rock Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail.
The rescue operation kicked off early on November 23, 2025, as rescue teams scoured the area to locate the individual who had spent a chilling night outdoors. Thankfully, he was found and successfully rescued just hours later. He was promptly transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, California, via an ambulance from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District for evaluation and treatment of exposure.
“This individual was in a life-threatening situation. Without our team’s intervention, there is no doubt he would have faced serious injury or even death,” stated Sheriff Dan Coverley, praising the dedication and expertise of the search and rescue team.
This incident highlights the dangers of backcountry hiking, especially as temperatures drop during the winter months. The Sheriff’s office urges hikers to remain vigilant, remain on marked trails, and prepare adequately for the conditions.
