CVCA Dominates VASJ 42-7, Advances to State Semifinals

URGENT UPDATE: Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) crushed Villa Angela-St. Joseph (VASJ) 42-7 on December 1, 2023, at Twinsburg High School’s Tiger Stadium, propelling themselves into the Division III state semifinals. This decisive victory showcases CVCA’s dominance on both offense and defense, solidifying their undefeated record at 12-0.

CVCA stormed out of the gates, establishing a commanding 21-0 lead in the first half. VASJ attempted to respond with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Joe Efford to Ardell Chapman, cutting the deficit briefly. However, CVCA quickly answered back with a spectacular play: quarterback Charley Levak launched a deflected pass caught by DonGino Bickley for a 36-yard touchdown, ending the half with a commanding 28-7 lead.

The second half saw CVCA maintain total control. VASJ struggled to advance past their own 20-yard line on the opening drive, leading to a fumble. Wesley Keeler capitalized on the mistake, scooping up the ball and returning it 14 yards for a touchdown, extending CVCA’s lead to 35-7.

Keeler had an outstanding performance, finishing the game with four total touchdowns, including three on the ground. “Our rushing attack was great today, and we knew that if we were to go far this year, it was going to be because we were running the ball great,” Levak stated. “It was an awesome thing, and at the end of the day, it was a lot of fun.”

CVCA’s defense continued its season-long excellence, marking their ninth opponent held to ten points or less. “It feels amazing. All of us are onboard,” Keeler said about the team’s journey towards a state championship. “We want to give all glory to Jesus, and that just means more than we can ever imagine.”

Looking ahead, the Royals will face Toledo Central Catholic (10-4) next Friday in the Division III state semifinal. Fans are eager to see if CVCA can maintain their momentum as they inch closer to a state title.
