Urgent: Public Forum on Parker Middle School Project Set for Nov. 20

UPDATE: A crucial public forum regarding the Parker Middle School building project is set for Thursday, November 20, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the Chelmsford-Lowell Elks Lodge, located at 300 Littleton Road. The School Building Committee will convene an hour earlier, at 6 p.m., to discuss the project’s progress.

The community is urged to attend this forum, the second of three scheduled meetings, where local residents can voice their opinions on this significant educational initiative. This project is currently in the feasibility study phase and aims to enhance the learning environment for students at Parker Middle School.

David Saindon, project executive with LeftField Project Management, emphasized the importance of this partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), calling it a “lottery win” for Chelmsford. He highlighted the competitive nature of the MSBA acceptance process, noting that some districts have waited up to eight years without success.

The MSBA has committed to covering 52% of the eligible costs associated with the Parker project, making this a pivotal opportunity for the community. Tori Geier, project manager with Ai3 Architects, recently toured the existing school and acknowledged its aging infrastructure, particularly concerning accessibility and code compliance.

At the previous forum on October 22, attendees participated in an interactive mapping exercise, identifying challenges and opportunities for the site. Community members expressed their vision for the project, emphasizing the need for town support, accessible facilities, and a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education.

The forthcoming forum is expected to continue these discussions and gather more community input, crucial for shaping the outcome of the Parker Middle School project. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and help define what success looks like for the new facility.

For those unable to attend, further details can be found at parkermsproject.com.
