Free Health Services Offered in Talo’fo’fo’ on November 21

Residents of Talo’fo’fo’ will have access to a range of free health services on November 21, 2023. The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) is organizing this outreach event to promote healthier living within the community. Taking place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jeromy Newby Community Youth Center, this initiative aims to ensure that both adults and children receive essential health services at no cost.

The services available during this outreach include free immunizations for children aged 2 months to 18 years. These immunizations are available to those enrolled in Medicaid or the Medical Indigent Program (MIP), as well as to uninsured children. Vaccines offered include DTaP, IPV, Hep B, Hep A, Hib, Prevnar, MMR, Tdap, Td, MCV, HPV, and the annual flu shot, all available while supplies last. Notably, tuberculosis (TB) skin tests will not be provided as they are not classified as vaccines.

In addition to immunizations, free physical exams will be conducted for both adults and children. Attendees can also benefit from educational resources regarding diabetes, tobacco use, and hypertension. Furthermore, DPHSS will assess eligibility for programs such as breast and cervical cancer screenings and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.

To facilitate the immunization process, parents or guardians should bring specific documents. These include the child’s birth certificate, current shot record, and a valid photo ID of the accompanying adult. If a child is accompanied by someone other than a parent or guardian, a written authorization from the parent is necessary.

Community-Centered Initiative

The outreach event is part of DPHSS’s ongoing Village Outreach Initiative, which seeks to meet residents in their local areas and improve access to health and wellness services. By collaborating with village mayors and local partners, DPHSS aims to empower residents to receive care, ask questions, and remain informed about their health options.

This outreach marks the final event of the year; however, DPHSS has plans to continue this initiative into 2026. Residents can expect further announcements regarding the next Village Outreach in February, which will include another opportunity for free health and social services.

For updates on future outreach events and community health activities, residents are encouraged to follow DPHSS on social media at @dphssguam on Instagram and @guamdphss on Facebook, or visit their official website at dphss.guam.gov.
