Stars of ‘Three Wisest Men’ Break Hallmark Norms Ahead of Premiere

UPDATE: Stars Tyler Hynes and Paul Campbell are making headlines with their bold approach to storytelling in Hallmark’s latest film, Three Wisest Men, set to premiere on November 15, 2023. The duo is proud to challenge the traditional norms of Hallmark movies, delivering a narrative that resonates with modern families.

“The reason that people keep coming back to these movies is that they reflect the human experience,” Campbell, 46, told Us Weekly ahead of the film’s launch. He emphasized that life is “messy and imperfect,” a stark contrast to the polished stories typically seen in Hallmark productions.

In the Three Wisest Men trilogy, which began in 2022, Campbell and Hynes portray brothers Stephan, Taylor, and Luke Brenner. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Luke brings home an abandoned baby, forcing the trio to navigate the complexities of parenthood alongside their chaotic personal lives. The series has quickly gained popularity, becoming Hallmark’s most-watched film and prompting a follow-up titled Three Wiser Men and a Boy, slated for 2024.

This latest installment continues to break barriers with its progressive themes. Notably, Hynes’ character, Taylor, faces the decision of moving in with his girlfriend, Caroline, without being engaged—a departure from Hallmark’s traditional portrayal of relationships. “Not everybody waits until they’re married to move in. That’s not accurate,” Campbell asserted, highlighting the film’s commitment to authenticity.

The creative force behind this shift is co-writer Kimberly Sustad, 38, who passionately advocated for a more realistic depiction of family dynamics. Hynes praised Sustad, saying, “It’s because of Kim that any of this stuff we’re talking about happened.”

Hallmark, known for its evolving approach to diversity and inclusion, has been supportive of the franchise’s innovative storytelling. Campbell noted, “While not everybody’s going to love that story line, Hallmark has been really great about letting us tell that because it’s necessary to diversify the way we tell stories.”

Hynes and Campbell also acknowledged the contributions of their co-star Andrew Walker, 46, and the entire cast for their dedication to creating relatable narratives. Hynes declared, “He is the MVP of these movies. Without a doubt, he is the centerpiece of it all.”

With its unique blend of humor and heartfelt moments, Three Wisest Men promises to resonate with audiences. As Campbell put it, “It’s that little extra sauce that makes the difference.”

As the premiere date approaches, fans eagerly await how this film will redefine Hallmark’s narrative landscape. The stars have made it clear: they are committed to telling stories that reflect real-life complexities, encouraging viewers to embrace the messiness of life.
