UPDATE: A man has been arrested after allegedly firing a gun during a confrontation over money at a residence on Inalahan Highway. Jordan Michael Babauta, aged 34, was charged with terrorizing as a third-degree felony, including a special allegation of using a deadly weapon in the incident that occurred early Monday morning.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a disturbance call at a private home. A man reported that he was having breakfast when Babauta approached and requested money. The victim claimed he had previously assisted Babauta about three years ago when his car ran out of gas, but had no other prior relationship with him.
Tensions escalated when a woman in the home told Babauta to leave. After being confronted, he allegedly took a fighting stance and threatened the man with a firearm. In a shocking turn of events, Babauta reportedly fired a shot close to the couple’s feet before aiming the weapon at the man once again, according to the magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court.
Babauta then fled the scene in his vehicle. Authorities apprehended him on Wednesday, where he denied making any threats. If convicted, he could face up to 28 years in prison. He is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail.
This incident highlights the alarming rise in firearm-related threats and violence in residential areas. The police urge the community to report any suspicious activity immediately to prevent further incidents.
As developments continue, stay tuned for updates on the case as it moves through the legal system.
