New Owners Transform Kiddie Academy of Murphy into Community Hub

Former electrical engineers Lidya and Anteneh Abera have assumed ownership of the Kiddie Academy franchise in Murphy, Texas, marking a new chapter for the local educational childcare facility. The couple acquired the franchise in June 2025 and aims to integrate community involvement with early childhood education.

Commitment to Education and Community

Operating together, the Aberas will implement Kiddie Academy’s proprietary Life Essentials curriculum, which exceeds Texas state educational standards. This curriculum is designed to foster early childhood development through a blend of academic and social skills. As parents of three, the Aberas are keenly aware of the importance of a nurturing environment for children’s growth.

“Our passion for education and family inspired us to own a Kiddie Academy franchise where children can thrive,” said Lidya Abera.

The couple envisions their academy as a peaceful, home-like setting where children can learn, play, and grow. Located at 605 E FM 544, the facility is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, providing a serene atmosphere for its young learners.

Engaging with the Local Community

The Aberas also prioritize community engagement. They plan to offer discounts for service members, first responders, teachers, and healthcare workers as a way to support local heroes. Additionally, they are committed to participating in community events, embracing the Kiddie Academy motto that “Community Begins Here.”

“We’ve always wanted to start our own business, and it was important to us that it be family-focused and have a positive impact,” said Anteneh Abera. “Kiddie Academy of Murphy gives us the perfect opportunity to turn that vision into reality.”

Kiddie Academy of Murphy is licensed to serve 230 children and employs a team of 20 educators. The facility boasts ten spacious classrooms and a large playground area, ensuring that children have ample space for various activities.

Founded in 1981, the Kiddie Academy brand has established itself as a leader in educational childcare. Headquartered in Abingdon, Maryland, the organization serves children ages six weeks to twelve years, offering a range of programs including full- and part-time care, before- and after-school services, and summer camps.

The Kiddie Academy system is also recognized for its philanthropic initiatives, such as support for the national nonprofit Family Promise, which extends character education beyond the classroom. Moreover, Kiddie Academy has received corporate accreditation from Cognia, affirming its commitment to high standards in childcare.
