Santa Clarita Valley Honors Veterans at Urgent Salute Event

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 15th annual Salute to Patriots event on November 5, 2025, honoring local veterans for their exceptional service to the community. The ceremony, hosted at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, gathered local dignitaries and community members to pay tribute to these heroes who continue to impact lives after their military careers.

This year’s honorees included Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Notably, Camille Applin-Jones was unable to attend and will be recognized at next year’s ceremony. The event serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing contributions veterans make to the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) community.

In a heartfelt address, Di Thompson, chair of the SCV Chamber, emphasized the profound impact these veterans have on safeguarding American freedoms. “You are not only defenders of our country, but also the pride of our community. You are heroes, both nationally and right here at home,” Thompson stated.

Local leaders took turns sharing the stories behind each honoree’s contributions, showcasing how their dedication has made the SCV stronger. Emily White shared an emotional tribute to her husband, Eric, calling him a “servant at heart” who goes above and beyond to assist others.

The impact of these veterans resonates deeply within the community. Robert Lasher, who volunteers at the SCV Food Pantry, described how serving those in need has given him purpose following the loss of his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” Lasher shared, highlighting the mutual support within the community.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the city’s commitment to supporting veterans, stating, “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will.” Miranda urged attendees to remember the sacrifices veterans have made and the ongoing challenges they face. “We have to take care of all our veterans, and we have to treat them right and fair,” he added.

As the SCV Chamber continues to recognize local veterans, community members are encouraged to nominate individuals who have positively impacted the SCV business landscape. This initiative aims to shine a light on those who may not receive the recognition they deserve but have played a vital role in enhancing the community.

The Salute to Patriots event underscores the importance of acknowledging and honoring the sacrifices made by veterans, not just on special occasions, but throughout the year. With the ongoing support from the SCV community, these veterans will continue to inspire future generations.
