Two Arrested in Scottsdale for Attempting to Sell Stolen Home

UPDATE: Two women have been arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, for allegedly attempting to sell a home they did not own. The Scottsdale Police Department confirmed the arrests following a real estate fraud investigation that unfolded rapidly over the past few days.

Authorities reported that the scheme came to light when the homeowner received an email from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office stating that the title of his property had been transferred to a woman named Rachael Cossette. The victim quickly responded, asserting that he was the sole owner and had never authorized any transfer of ownership.

As the investigation progressed, police discovered that Cossette had contacted a real estate investor, claiming she inherited the vacant home and needed to sell it quickly. The investor was misled into believing she was the rightful owner and agreed to a sale, with plans for Cossette to sign the paperwork at a title company on November 26, 2023.

In a surprising turn of events, police revealed that Cossette and her accomplice, identified as Lezlie Greer, changed the locks on the victim’s residence and installed a lockbox for potential buyers. They even arranged for the real estate developer to view the property, using a friend who provided access.

The situation escalated on November 6, when both Cossette and Greer arrived at the title company to finalize the sale. However, upon seeing detectives in the lobby, they attempted to flee but were apprehended in the parking lot.

Cossette now faces multiple charges, including fraud schemes and forgery, while Greer is also charged under a felony warrant for her role in the scheme.

This alarming incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding real estate fraud, and officials urge homeowners to stay vigilant. With such cases on the rise, it is crucial for property owners to monitor their titles and report any suspicious activity promptly.

Authorities continue to investigate the broader implications of this case and are working to ensure that similar schemes are thwarted in the future. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
