Truckee North Tahoe TMA Honors Key Achievements in Mobility

UPDATE: The Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association (TNTTMA) has just celebrated significant member achievements in advancing regional mobility, recognizing over 80 member organizations for their impactful projects. The event took place in Truckee, California, where board members submitted nominations and the full membership voted on this year’s honorees.

Executive Director Sara Van Siclen emphasized the importance of acknowledging these milestones, stating,

“While we connect regularly throughout the year to share updates and keep projects moving forward, this annual event is our opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate the progress we’ve made together.”

With transportation being a complex issue, TNTTMA aims to highlight the collaborative efforts that often go unnoticed.

Among the notable awards presented were the following:

Transit Changemaker Award: The award went to Keep Tahoe Blue and the Tahoe Fund for their launch of the Emerald Bay Shuttle. This pilot program enhances access to one of Tahoe’s most iconic destinations by providing convenient transit between Camp Richardson, Sugar Pine Point State Park, and the South Tahoe “Y” Transit Center. This initiative also removed unsafe roadside parking, promoting environmental protection and safety.

Infrastructure Improvement Award: The Tahoe Transportation District and Placer County were recognized for the Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project in Tahoe City. This transformative project focuses on improving traffic flow, safety, and multi-modal access, featuring a new bypass bridge over the Truckee River and modern replacements for the historic Fanny Bridge. The project also introduced new trails, sidewalks, and bike facilities through cooperation among multiple agencies.

Trailblazing Award: The Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD) received accolades for the North Shore Trail Reconstruction Project, a $3.2 million investment completed in Fall 2024. This project enhanced two miles of one of the lake’s busiest multi-use trails with new pavement, realigned intersections, and updated signage, significantly improving safety and accessibility.

Chip Matcham Award: Named in honor of the visionary community leader, this award was given to Dan Wilkins for over 24 years on the TNTTMA Board and nearly 30 years with the Town of Truckee. His leadership has profoundly shaped Truckee’s infrastructure, creating 13 roundabouts and expanding miles of trails, sidewalks, and bike lanes.

As these projects unfold, they not only enhance mobility but also enrich the visitor experience in the Tahoe Truckee region. For more information, visit www.tnttma.com. The achievements celebrated serve as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
