UPDATE: David “Dave” Platt, a cherished safety professional and community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on September 30, 2025, after a short illness. His family confirms this heartbreaking news, marking the loss of an individual who dedicated his life to ensuring workplace safety in California.
Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, CA, Dave’s journey was filled with passion and dedication. He actively participated in local activities, including Scouting and Little League Baseball, and graduated from Calhi School in 1973. His commitment to education led him to Sonoa State University, where he earned a degree in Anthropology in 1978.
After college, Dave married Jan Vogee and later moved to the Santa Cruz area, where he continued to grow his career and family. He formed a loving bond with Ailene Platt, welcoming a daughter, Carolanne Baker, into their lives. Known as “The Safety Guy,” Dave was a Certified Safety Professional who played a vital role in teaching employers about workplace safety, significantly impacting countless lives.
In 2019, Dave relocated to Sequim, WA, where he spent his final years enjoying his passions for photography, cooking, and music. His legacy lives on through his wife, Merribeth Platt (married 2006), daughter, and extensive family, including siblings, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Dave was a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club and attended numerous concerts, illustrating his vibrant spirit. His love for life and commitment to family are deeply felt by all who knew him.
In honor of Dave’s memory, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his desire to support others even after his passing. His impact will resonate within the community and beyond, as friends and family remember a man who lived fully and generously.
