Chicago Weekend Violence: 1 Dead, 9 Injured in Shootings

BREAKING: A weekend of violence in Chicago has left one person dead and nine others injured in multiple shootings. Chicago police report that incidents occurred from Friday evening through early Saturday morning, with victims aged between 25 and 45.

The first shooting unfolded on Friday, October 20, 2023, around 6:23 PM in the 5500 block of South Lafayette Avenue. A 43-year-old woman was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

As the night progressed, violence escalated. At 2:23 AM on Saturday in the 100 block of East 57th Street, a 25-year-old woman was struck in the right bicep by gunfire from two unidentified shooters while driving. She was transported to the same hospital in serious condition.

In another incident just minutes later, around 2:38 AM in the 4400 block of West 16th Street, officers discovered a male victim in a parked sedan suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest. He was also taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and remains in critical condition. Law enforcement reports that a weapon was recovered, and a person of interest is currently in custody.

The violence continued at 3:03 AM when a 27-year-old man was shot in the neck while inside his car in the 700 block of South Laramie Avenue. He self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment. Subsequent shootings included a 45-year-old man who was shot in the left knee at 4:05 AM and a group of three men targeted by gunfire at 3 PM in the 3100 block of South St. Louis Avenue.

The most tragic event occurred at 5:22 AM in the 4400 block of West Augusta Boulevard, where gunfire from unknown attackers struck a red Dodge Charger. A 37-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while a 29-year-old man remains in critical condition after being hit multiple times in the head.

Authorities have confirmed that, unless otherwise noted, no arrests have been made in these incidents. The Chicago Police Department is actively investigating and seeking any information from the public.
