UPDATE: The Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology Conference (GETT) is set to take place on Saturday, November 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County. This highly anticipated annual event is a vital opportunity for girls to engage with hands-on STEM experiences and connect with inspiring industry role models.
Launched in 2001, GETT aims to combat the underrepresentation of women in technology fields. This year marks an important milestone, as the conference celebrates 25 years of empowering girls to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. According to the World Economic Forum, women currently represent only 28 percent of the global STEM workforce—a statistic driving the urgency for events like GETT.
Daisy Adams, chairwoman of GETT and senior director of Digital Operations at Bentley Systems, emphasized the significance of the event in a recent statement, saying,
“GETT is a practical way to introduce girls to STEM fields in a fun, engaging half-day experience.”
The conference will feature over 100 hands-on STEM activities across various disciplines, including computer science, engineering, coding, robotics, healthcare, environmental science, and more.
Marianne Stack, project director of the Innovative Technology Action Group, noted the transformative impact of the conference, stating,
“When these students interact with successful women in STEM, it transforms their perspective on what’s possible and inspires them to envision themselves as the next generation of STEM innovators.”
The GETT initiative is breaking down barriers by connecting girls with female leaders in diverse roles, from software development to broadcasting.
Initially focused on computer and IT fields, GETT has expanded its reach, drawing participants from across Southeastern Pennsylvania and showcasing an even broader spectrum of STEM opportunities. The program also offers experiences throughout the year, ensuring ongoing engagement with STEM disciplines.
This free conference is expected to attract hundreds of attendees, making it a vital event for young girls interested in exploring their potential in STEM careers. For those eager to participate or learn more, registration details can be found at https://gettpa.org/.
Stay tuned for more updates as the event date approaches. Don’t miss this chance to be part of a transformative experience that could shape future innovators!
