National Drug Take Back Day: Dispose of Meds Safely This Weekend

URGENT UPDATE: National Drug Take Back Day is set for this weekend, offering a critical opportunity for communities to safely dispose of unused and expired medications. The event will take place on October 25, 2023, with multiple locations participating throughout the region.

Beaufort County is hosting its event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bluffton Kroger, located at 27 Discovery Dr.. Law enforcement will be on-site to collect unwanted medications, including pills, liquids, gels, and patches. This initiative is in partnership with the Cardinal Health Foundation, ensuring safe disposal practices.

In Chatham County, residents can drop off medications at the West Chatham YMCA, located at 165 Isaac G. Laroche Dr. in Pooler. The drive-thru site will operate from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., allowing for anonymous disposal. This event is organized by Memorial Health Hospital in collaboration with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, YMCA of Coastal Georgia, and HCA Healthcare.

Meanwhile, Toombs County will facilitate medication disposal from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, located at 357 NW Broad St., Suite #1 in Lyons, Ga. Please note that needles and liquids will not be accepted at this drop-off.

This nationwide event aims to combat the growing issue of prescription drug abuse by providing safe disposal options for residents. By participating, communities help protect the environment and prevent accidental poisonings.
