Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. He was a beloved family man and a dedicated member of his community, leaving behind a legacy of love and hard work.
Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis, Virgil was the son of the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell. Throughout his life, he was known for his passion for family, classic cars, and his deep affection for his pets. His love for classic automobiles was not merely a hobby; he cherished the craftsmanship and history each vehicle represented, often sharing stories about them.
A Life of Dedication and Family
Virgil’s dedication extended beyond his personal interests to his professional life. He worked for several years with Teamsters Local #610, where his strong work ethic and commitment to his job earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. His retirement marked the end of a fulfilling career, but he remained active in the lives of his family and community.
He is survived by a large family, including five children: Vickie Ramsey and husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Dan, Betty Niccum and husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and wife Kristin. His legacy continues with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, and twenty-four great-grandchildren, as well as two great-great-grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia O’Brien Whitwell, and several family members, including his brother, John Stallings, and two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Niccum. His family reflects on his warmth and kindness, which will resonate in their hearts for years to come.
Final Farewell and Legacy
Visitation for Virgil will take place at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. The visitation will continue on October 24, 2025, starting at 09:00, leading up to a service at 11:00, officiated by Pastor Russell Dotson. Following the service, interment will occur at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
