Urgent Update: Virgil Wayne Whitwell Passes Away at 84

BREAKING NEWS: Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, has passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. His passing marks the end of a life filled with love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Whitwell, born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis, was a beloved family man who always prioritized time with his loved ones. He found joy in sharing moments that created lasting memories, and he brought happiness wherever he went. Known for his passion for classic cars, his enthusiasm was matched only by his love for his dogs, who provided him with companionship throughout his life.

During his career with Teamsters Local #610, Whitwell exhibited a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment, contributing many years of service before his retirement. He was a pillar of strength for his family, who will forever remember his warmth and kindness.

“Virgil’s heart and spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him,” said a family spokesperson.

Whitwell is survived by five children: Vickie Ramsey (Rickie), Cheryl Mitchell (Dan), Betty Niccum (Jody), Michael Whitwell (Alicia), and Matthew Whitwell (Kristin). He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including Deanna Hite, Paul Ramsey, and Amanda Whitwell, among others, totaling 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His loved ones have expressed their sorrow while reflecting on the legacy he leaves behind.

Visitation services are scheduled at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The visitation will continue on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Russell Dotson. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
