UPDATE: Weld County Road 34 is officially closed as of today for essential roundabout construction, disrupting traffic until December 22, 2023. The closure affects the stretch between the east Interstate 25 frontage road and Weld County Road 13, as crews work to install a new roundabout at the junction of Weld 34 and Weld County Road 9.5, which will soon be designated as High Plains Boulevard.
This closure is critical for enhancing safety and efficiency in one of the county’s busiest areas. As stated by Curtis Hall, Weld County’s director of public works, “Just as our other county roundabouts were built to reduce the likelihood of broadside crashes and increase the efficiency of traffic flow, we expect the ones planned for High Plains Boulevard to do the same.”
Affected drivers can find alternative routes by accessing the Weld County Road Advisory Map at apps.weld.gov/publicworks/roadadvisory. Residents will still have access to homes and businesses during this extensive, nine-week project, which includes utility installations and drainage improvements.
The initiative aims to create safer and more efficient transportation options in a rapidly growing region. Jason Maxey, Weld County commissioner, emphasized the importance of the new road, stating, “One of the primary motivating factors for the construction of High Plains Boulevard is to provide another safe and efficient north and south route throughout a busy and growing portion of the county.”
In addition to the roundabout at Weld 34 and Weld 9.5, another roundabout is also planned at the Weld 32 and Weld 9.5 intersection, further enhancing the area’s traffic management. High Plains Boulevard will feature bike lanes on both sides and a ten-foot sidewalk on one side, ensuring safe multi-modal transportation for all users.
