In the upcoming school board elections for the Durango School District, voters are encouraged to support the reelection of incumbents Erika Brown, Andrea Parmenter, and Rick Peterson. Their continued leadership is seen as vital for maintaining the district’s high performance, which stands out despite Colorado’s low per pupil education investment.
The performance of the Durango School District is noteworthy, particularly given that Colorado ranks among the lowest in the nation for educational funding. As an educator and substitute teacher within the district, I have witnessed firsthand the significant achievements fostered by the current school administration, supported by the dedication of the school board members.
During a recent forum organized by the League of Women Voters, I aimed to evaluate the candidates vying for seats on the school board. Unfortunately, only one of the three challengers, Tamara Fenberg, attended the event, while Pearl Stegner was absent. This absence raises questions about their commitment to the role and their readiness to engage with the community.
The forum provided a platform for discussing ideas and sharing visions for the district. However, the lack of participation from Fenberg and Stegner limited the opportunity for voters to understand their proposals. In contrast, Brown, Parmenter, and Peterson demonstrated their knowledge of the district’s needs and a clear willingness to work diligently to advance educational outcomes.
As I left the forum, it became clear that the incumbents are well-equipped to lead the district into the future. Their insights and experience contribute to a well-functioning educational system that prioritizes the needs of our children. The dedication they have shown in their current roles will be essential as they strive to keep the district on a path of continued improvement.
Given the challenges facing public education today, it is crucial that voters consider the proven leadership of Brown, Parmenter, and Peterson. Their reelection would not only ensure stability but also promote ongoing progress within the Durango School District.
In summary, I strongly recommend supporting the reelection of Erika Brown, Andrea Parmenter, and Rick Peterson for the school board. Their commitment and understanding of our district’s educational landscape make them the most qualified candidates to serve our community.
