URGENT UPDATE: K9 Roam, the courageous canine officer from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), is set to return home after a harrowing recovery from severe injuries sustained in the line of duty. The procession, a heartfelt tribute to Roam’s bravery and resilience, will take place tomorrow, October 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
Roam was critically injured on October 15, while bravely attempting to apprehend a suspect. Following an intense surgery that included a leg amputation, he has been recuperating at Animal ER Care, supported by a dedicated veterinary team. The CSPD has publicly expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided during Roam’s recovery.
The emotional homecoming procession will commence at 11:00 AM on Fountain Boulevard, with Roam and his handler expected to pass by around 11:15 AM. Community members are encouraged to line the sidewalks to show their support for Roam’s service and sacrifice. Attendees are advised to avoid parking directly on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard to ensure a smooth event.
CSPD officials emphasize the significance of this moment, stating, “Roam’s journey home is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by both human and canine law enforcement officers.” This event not only celebrates Roam’s bravery but also reinforces the strong bond between service animals and the communities they protect.
For those wanting to learn more or speak with CSPD representatives, Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford will be available for interviews at the CSPD Sand Creek Substation shortly after the procession concludes.
As the community rallies together, this event serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect. Make sure to show your support for K9 Roam and his recovery journey tomorrow—your presence will make a difference!
