Scott City Throws Combined No-Hitter, Downs Undefeated Chaffee 12-0
In a jaw-dropping showdown for the Scott-Mississippi Conference title, the Scott City Rams handed the previously undefeated Chaffee Red Devils their first loss Wednesday, May 6, with an overpowering 12-0 road victory that featured a combined no-hitter pitched by Kaden Lowery and Braeden Walton.
Lowery led the historic effort, pitching 5 2⁄3 innings without allowing a hit while striking out seven and delivering crucial defensive plays, including four assists at first base. Walton closed the deal by retiring the final batter in a flawless relief appearance. The Rams overwhelmed Chaffee with timely hitting and relentless pressure across multiple innings.
Explosive Offense Cracks Undefeated Chaffee
Scott City erupted for three runs in the second inning, followed by an explosive six-run surge in the fifth, and sealed the game with another three-run burst in the sixth. Key contributors included Evan Boswell and Christopher Graff, each collecting three hits and driving in two runs, along with Lane Miller who recorded two hits and three RBIs.
Chaffee’s typically dominant starting pitcher Jordan Essner struggled, surrendering nine runs over 4 2⁄3 innings. Defensive errors and costly balks by Lowery briefly allowed Chaffee runners in scoring position, but the Rams’ airtight middle infield defense prevented any damage. The Red Devils also committed three fielding errors, compounding their troubles.
