A tragic accident in El Cajon, California, resulted in the death of a 19-year-old driver after a collision with a box truck. The crash occurred on March 14, 2024, at approximately 15:25 near the intersection of Broadway and Oro Street, according to the El Cajon Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the box truck overturned on its side. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle briefly engulfed in flames. The driver of the black BMW, identified as Jesse Hernandez of El Cajon, was trapped inside the severely damaged car. First responders worked to free him, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two delivery workers inside the box truck sustained only minor injuries. Investigations into the incident revealed that excessive speed may have played a role in the crash. Witnesses indicated that the BMW was possibly engaged in a speed contest with another vehicle prior to the collision with the box truck.
Lt. Joe Crawford of the El Cajon Police Department stated, “Excessive speed appears to be a factor,” highlighting the seriousness of speed-related incidents on local roads. No arrests have been made in connection with this incident as the investigation continues.
