Bismarck Clinches First Conference Title Since 2009 in Thrilling Win

BREAKING: The Bismarck girls basketball team has made history by clinching its first MAAA Small School championship since 2009, defeating Arcadia Valley 63-56 in a nail-biting showdown on Thursday evening in Ironton. This victory not only marks a significant milestone for the Lady Indians, but it also ends a five-game losing streak against the Lady Tigers.

In a game characterized by intense competition, senior guard Halie Dickey led the charge with a game-high 23 points and four steals. Her performance was pivotal as Bismarck maintained composure under pressure, especially in the final minutes when the game hung in the balance.

The Lady Indians (17-4, 3-0) faced mounting pressure from Arcadia Valley (14-10, 3-1), which saw a strong performance from Braelyn Turnbough, who scored 17 points and contributed six rebounds and five assists. Despite several attempts to close the gap, including a crucial three-pointer from Turnbough that briefly gave the Lady Tigers a 43-42 lead, Bismarck fought back to reclaim control.

The defining moment came when Kinsey Hubbs, who played a critical role throughout the game, executed a brilliant play to set up the go-ahead layup. With just under three minutes left, Hubbs extended the lead to 59-51 from the free-throw line, showcasing Bismarck’s resilience.

The emotional weight of this championship win is profound for the team, especially under first-year head coach Logan Blunt. The Lady Indians are now poised to carry this momentum into their upcoming district tournament, assigned to Class 2, District 3 at Van Buren, where they will face either Ellington or East Carter.

As Bismarck celebrates this historic achievement, Arcadia Valley will use the time ahead to regroup as they prepare for their own district tournament, hosting Class 3, District 3, against either West County or Grandview.

This thrilling win not only highlights the skill and determination of the Bismarck team but also serves as a powerful reminder of the emotional highs and lows that define high school sports. With the season winding down, all eyes will be on Bismarck as they aim for further success on the court.
