tnAchieves Launches Fall Job Shadow Days, Engaging 250 Students

URGENT UPDATE: tnAchieves has kicked off its fall Job Shadow Days, engaging nearly 250 students across Tennessee with hands-on career exploration opportunities. This initiative, running throughout November 2023, showcases the commitment of local businesses to support the future workforce.

Job shadowing events allow tnAchieves students to gain valuable insights into various professions right in their communities. With 84.7 percent of tnAchieves graduates remaining in Tennessee for work, these experiences are crucial for building a skilled workforce.

Throughout this month, tnAchieves has partnered with numerous businesses to create 15 job shadowing events. Students are not just observing; they are immersing themselves in the day-to-day realities of professions ranging from healthcare to finance.

According to recent feedback, 80 percent of participants reported that their job shadowing experience provided them with career clarity, while 84 percent stated they gained a strong understanding of the skills needed for success in the workforce. Furthermore, an impressive 99 percent of students left with at least one valuable networking contact, enhancing their professional connections.

“tnAchieves relies on support from community partners to open doors and enhance connections in each of the 74 counties we serve,” said Tyler Ford, Vice President of Workforce. “These businesses are raising their hands to say they believe in meeting and supporting the workforce of tomorrow…today. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our students.”

The hours students spend job shadowing can also contribute to their Tennessee Promise community service requirement. To date, tnAchieves students have collectively completed more than 971,000 hours of job shadowing, demonstrating the program’s significant impact on youth employment readiness.

tnAchieves hosts these Job Shadow Days biannually, with each iteration seeing increased student registration. Local businesses that opened their doors this season include:

– Arconic
