UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime showdown, the No. 15 St. Thomas Tommies clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory against the Bowling Green Falcons on February 17, 2023. Nick Williams scored the game-winner midway through overtime, propelling the Tommies to their 12th win in their last 13 games.
The Tommies faced an uphill battle throughout the match, trailing twice before rallying back each time. Nathan Pilling opened the scoring for St. Thomas with a power-play goal at 18:33 of the first period, leveling the game at 1-1 before the intermission. However, the Falcons quickly regained the lead just 54 seconds into the second period.
St. Thomas responded with resilience as Pilling found the net again, securing another power-play goal that tied the game at 2-2 just under twelve minutes later. The score remained unchanged through a tense third period, setting the stage for Williams’ decisive goal.
Goaltender Carsen Musser made 25 saves to secure the win, showcasing a strong performance in net. Lucas Wahlin contributed significantly, providing two assists among the Tommies’ six assists in the contest.
With this victory, St. Thomas now leads the CCHA standings by five points over Augustana and Michigan Tech, who defeated the Vikings 3-2 in overtime earlier that night. Bowling Green’s record now stands at 14-7-6 overall and 11-5-3 in the CCHA.
