Urgent: Kitchen Fire Causes Major Damage in Aurora Home

URGENT UPDATE: A cooking-related fire has caused significant damage to a home in south Aurora, displacing two adults and two children Wednesday evening. The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. on the 400 block of South Lima Circle, prompting multiple emergency calls to 911.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames and thick smoke billowing from the rear of the home. The occupants were safely outside in the front yard when crews arrived. Fire officials quickly identified the source of the blaze as a kitchen fire that had spread into the attic.

The fire was brought under control within 17 minutes, at 6:57 p.m., with no injuries reported. However, the fire caused “significant damage” to both the kitchen and attic, according to Aurora Fire and Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst.

A total of 15 fire and medical units and approximately 40 personnel from Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police, and Falck Rocky Mountain responded to the incident. Fortunately, the affected family did not require assistance from the American Red Cross.

Investigators have classified the fire as an “accidental kitchen fire related to cooking.” Hurst emphasized that cooking remains the leading cause of home fires. Residents are urged to avoid leaving cooking unattended, keep combustible items away from heat sources, and ensure that working smoke alarms are installed on every level and in sleeping areas of their homes.

This incident highlights the critical importance of fire safety in residential areas. As authorities continue to investigate, residents are reminded to stay vigilant while cooking to prevent similar occurrences.
