At approximately 09:39 a.m., a member of the Wilmington Police Department’s Special Operations Division was in the 800 block of North Shipley Street when a passerby alerted the officer to a burglary that had just taken place. After receiving a description of the suspect, the officer initiated a canvass of the surrounding area.
Within a short time, the officer identified a woman matching the description in the 100 block of Burton Place. The suspect was later confirmed to be 40-year-old Emily Popkey, who was taken into custody without incident.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Authorities have charged Popkey with third-degree burglary and theft under $1,500, in addition to the existing warrant for her arrest. Following her arrest, she was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and subsequently committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a secured bail amount of $4,000.
