The City of Addison has officially canceled the Taste of Addison Food Festival after three decades of celebration. Following significant financial losses exceeding $760,000 in 2022, the city council voted to discontinue the event, which was scheduled for April 17-19, 2024.
During a work session on Tuesday, council members discussed the event’s declining profitability and the potential for exploring alternative ways to promote Addison’s vibrant culinary scene. A representative from the Town of Addison stated, “After 30 years of food, music, and fun, Taste Addison has taken its final bow. While the three-day festival will no longer take place, its spirit will definitely live on.” The town plans to refocus its efforts on innovative methods to celebrate its more than 200 restaurants throughout the year.
The festival was known for providing an accessible experience to the community, with single-day passes priced at $10. On Sundays, Addison residents enjoyed a reduced admission of $5, while others could enter for $3 off with a canned food donation. Children entered for free, and seniors and veterans benefited from half-price tickets. Despite its community-friendly approach, the financial strain led to the decision to halt the festival.
Last year, participants included notable establishments such as The Hub Sportsbar, Nate’s Seafood, and many others, totaling over 50 restaurants. While the festival fostered community engagement and highlighted local dining options, council members suggested reallocating resources towards initiatives like a media campaign or a restaurant week, similar to successful models in Dallas.
Despite the discontinuation of the Taste of Addison, the Town of Addison confirmed that its popular Oktoberfest event will continue as scheduled in the fall, providing ongoing opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy local cuisine and festivities.
This shift marks a significant change in Addison’s approach to celebrating its culinary offerings, aiming to develop year-round options that support the local dining scene while adapting to financial realities.
