Community Advocate Kellianne Frketic Launches Campaign for PA House

Kellianne Frketic, a local community advocate and working mother, announced her candidacy for Pennsylvania State Representative in House District 39 on Monday. Frketic’s campaign centers on a commitment to challenge traditional political norms in Harrisburg, emphasizing visibility, accountability, and representation of working-class families.

Frketic, a lifelong resident of Elizabeth Township, expressed frustration with what she perceives as disconnected leadership in her district. “I am running because our district deserves a representative who is present, accessible, and deeply connected to the people they serve,” she stated. Her belief is that government should actively serve families and communities, beginning with the insights gained from personal experiences.

With a professional background focused on food access and public service, Frketic has previously held the role of food service director in local school districts. She currently manages senior food box programs at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, where she gains valuable insights into the challenges faced by residents across various life stages.

As a single mother of a 17-year-old son, Frketic understands the financial pressures that many families encounter today. She cited mortgage payments, student loans, car expenses, and escalating living costs as significant burdens. Frketic also identifies as part of the “sandwich generation,” balancing the needs of a teenage child while supporting aging family members. “I know what it means to make tough choices and stretch every dollar,” she remarked. “The people of District 39 deserve representation from someone who actually lives the realities they face and will put in the work to help them.”

Frketic’s political journey began at the grassroots level, where she attended township and school board meetings, advocating for local issues. This experience has shaped her understanding of government as a service-oriented institution rather than a distant bureaucracy. “We need elected officials with a plan, a proven record of service, and a clear understanding that government exists to work for all of us,” she emphasized. “I am the candidate in this race who will do that, full time.”

Her campaign platform includes regular listening sessions throughout the district, enhanced constituent services, and transparent communication regarding legislative decisions. Frketic advocates for the responsible investment of tax dollars to bolster community strength, support working families, and ensure that state government operates fairly and effectively.

To kick off her campaign, Frketic is hosting a launch party on January 10, 2024, from 18:00 to 20:00 at the South Park Community Center. The event’s host committee comprises various local leaders, including Angela Girol, committee chair; Nicole Ruscitto, a council member from Jefferson Borough; state Representative Emily Kinkead of House District 20; and several Allegheny County Council members.

“I’m running because District 39 deserves representation that looks like the people who live here,” Frketic stated. “I’m ready to show up, listen, and work for our community.”

As the campaign unfolds, Frketic aims to engage with constituents and address the pressing issues facing her district, marking a significant step in local political dynamics.
