SGMC Health Appoints New Chief Residents for Internal Medicine

SGMC Health has announced the appointment of Ornob Rahman, MD, and Samuel Edusa, MD, as the new chief residents for its Internal Medicine Residency Program, effective March 2026. The selection of these physicians was made by their colleagues and subsequently approved by faculty and staff, recognizing their outstanding leadership, professionalism, and dedication to clinical excellence.

The role of chief resident is a significant achievement in medical education, providing opportunities to enhance clinical, teaching, and administrative skills. Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa will serve as essential liaisons between residents and faculty during their one-year term. Their responsibilities will include leading educational conferences, coordinating schedules, supervising trainees, and promoting resident well-being.

In addition to their roles with Internal Medicine residents, the new chief residents will also oversee those in the Transitional Year program. This responsibility emphasizes the importance of fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment within SGMC Health’s Medical Education program.

Dr. Rahman obtained his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts, where he built a strong foundation in patient-centered care and academic leadership. Dr. Edusa, a graduate of the University of Ghana Medical School, is recognized for his clinical excellence and compassionate mentorship.

Greg Beale, MD, program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, expressed confidence in the leadership abilities of Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa. “They represent the future of medicine. Their dedication to education and patient care will not only strengthen our residency program but also inspire the next generation of physicians,” he stated.

As SGMC Health’s Medical Education program continues to grow, it not only focuses on the Internal Medicine residency but also offers a one-year Transitional Year residency. This program provides crucial foundational clinical experience for physicians entering various specialties. Looking ahead, SGMC Health plans to launch a Family Medicine residency program in the summer of 2026, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing healthcare access, education, and quality across the region.

Additionally, SGMC Health serves as a clinical campus for Mercer University School of Medicine, offering third- and fourth-year medical students valuable hands-on training and immersive clinical experiences that prepare them for successful careers in medicine.
