Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery have formalized a new multi-year agreement that significantly enhances their international collaboration. This deal will see the distribution of HBO Max expanded into two additional countries, namely Belgium and Austria, while also renewing its distribution in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.
The partnership will not only benefit HBO Max subscribers. Channels such as Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International will continue to be distributed in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Additionally, Warner TV will also see its distribution renewed in the Czech Republic.
This agreement extends beyond Europe. In collaboration with MultiChoice Group in Africa, Canal+ will renew the distribution of 12 thematic channels from Warner Bros. Discovery, which include CNN International, Cartoon Network, and Discovery Channel, among others.
Strengthening Global Presence
The arrangement between Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery builds on earlier agreements made in 2024. This includes the renewal of the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. Pictures films, allowing these films to be available on pay-TV in France just six months after their theatrical release. The integration of HBO Max into select Canal+ group offerings has also been a key part of their recent collaborations.
This expansion comes at a time when Netflix is finalizing its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. This acquisition has the potential to elevate Canal+’s position on the global stage, particularly as the company already maintains distribution agreements with Netflix.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, this strategic partnership is poised to enhance content availability across multiple regions, catering to a diverse audience while reinforcing the market presence of both Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The agreement, which reflects the ongoing shifts in media consumption, underscores the importance of strategic alliances in adapting to changing viewer preferences. As the rollout of HBO Max in new territories unfolds, both companies are likely to benefit from increased subscriber bases and expanded content offerings.
Further details on the specifics of content availability and launch dates are expected to be revealed in the upcoming months.
